Church of Greater Lansing Project
How should we dress/prepare?
- Only cars with 3 people (2 adults) will be given boxes to distribute, to ensure safety & traffic manageability.
- Dress warm & comfortable. Layers are best. We will start indoors prior to being outdoors for a few hours.
- Wear comfortable shoes/boots for walking.
- Be sure to eat before you come.
- Empty the trunk make room for boxes and passengers
What should we do about parking?
- Please car pool with at least 3 people per car to keep parking and traffic flow manageable.
- Those interested in delivering a box should park at the MSU commuter lot on the corner of Farm Lane and Mount Hope (see Event Map).
- There will be shuttling from the commuter lot to MSU Auditorium for the Rally between 10:45 a.m. & 1:45 p.m. (There will be signs and event staff to direct traffic.) We encourage each driver to drop passengers off at the MSU auditorium and then park at the commuter lot and shuttle or walk to the auditorium. (This ensures shuttle availability for small children, elderly, or those with physical needs.)
Where is the Pre-Event Rally being hosted?
- The pre-event activities will be held at MSU Auditorium at 113 Auditorium Lane, East Lansing MI (located on the corner of Farm Lane and Auditorium Lane--see Event Map). Please plan to arrive no later than 1:45 p.m. The rally will start promptly at 1:45 p.m. If you plan to participate in the food chain and distribution of boxes to families you should plan to arrive much earlier to catch a bus from the commuter lot. See "What Should We Do for Parking" listed above for more details. The auditorium doors will open at 11:00 a.m. for early birds!
Will there be Handicap parking?
- There is limited handicap parking located close to the building for those utilizing wheel chairs or motorized transportation. All others needing handicap parking, please park in the commuter lot on the north-west corner of Farm Lane and Mount Hope Rd in East Lansing. A bus will be available to shuttle you to the MSU Auditorium running approximately every 10 minutes.
How many people are we expecting to participate in the Food Distribution?
- MSU Auditorium has the capacity to accommodate 4,370 people. Every person is welcome and there are no restrictions on the number of volunteers a church can bring.
- First come first seated, so come early! Each person will have a significant role, as our goal is to send groups of at least 3 people to deliver 1 to 3 boxes to families in need and then pray a prayer of blessing for them.
How is the message of Christ being shared?
- Our goal is to “be” the hands and feet of Christ to these families in need. When people see Christ working through us, then it opens the door for us to tell them about Christ. As we deliver food boxes, we’ll offer prayer support in a gentle and respectful way and leave an invitation to visit any the participating churches.
Will families be notified that we are delivering food to their home?
- Yes, we are informing families in advance that we will be hand-delivering food boxes to their homes. They have requested the delivery of the box and have committed to being home on February 21st between 4:00p.m. and 8:00p.m.
How do we contribute financially?
- If your church is participating you can write out a check directly to your church and note it for “Food Drop” in the memo line. Each church will write a single check to the coordinating church (Trinity Church) for the distribution of Funds. They will also note their checks for “Food Drop” in the memo line.
- If your church is not partnering but you would like to contribute financially please send the check directly to Trinity Church noted for “Food Drop” and mail to 3355 Dunckel Rd Lansing MI 48911, and email Jim Felver with your donation total.
